Zakarpattia Provides Shelter for Families Evacuated from the Front Lines

According to TSN.ua: As the war in Ukraine continues, families from frontline regions like Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhzhia are forced to seek safety elsewhere. The humanitarian mission 'Proliska' organizes evacuations and provides temporary housing for displaced people who have lost their homes. Zakarpattia, a region in western Ukraine far from the fighting, has become a crucial sanctuary. This area borders several EU countries and has been a primary destination for internal displacement since the full-scale invasion began.

A Journey into the Unknown: The First Steps of Evacuation

Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhzhia remain active combat zones where hostilities persist. In recent days, 6 evacuation trains have arrived in Zakarpattia, highlighting the steady flow of people desperate to find a secure place for their families. At the first stop in Mukachevo, 17 people arrived, including 10 children. Yevhen Kaplin, a mission representative, stated:

'This is already the second evacuation railcar today.' - Yevhen Kaplin

His comment underscores the urgency of the situation and the critical need for action to ensure evacuee safety.

A New Home in Teresva

Evacuees are being housed in a new temporary accommodation center in the village of Teresva, which has become the 36th such facility for displaced persons in Zakarpattia. This temporary point was opened by 'Proliska' at the end of 2025 and has already received residents from Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kharkiv regions. Living under constant threat, with the sounds of 'Shahed' drones and 'KAB' guided bombs a daily reality, families have no choice but to leave. One parent from an evacuated family explained:

'Shaheds or KABs—something was constantly hitting the houses. Half the district was damaged.'

This testimony points to the severe and immediate danger these civilians face.

A Life in a Few Bags

Those arriving in Zakarpattia often carry only a few bags of personal belongings. They leave everything behind in their search for safety for their children and themselves. The 'Proliska' humanitarian mission continues its work to provide housing and other essential resources for those in need. For many families, Zakarpattia is becoming a new home where they hope for a better future and a peaceful life.

The ongoing evacuation of families from frontline regions illustrates the immense challenges Ukrainians face during wartime. Zakarpattia, as a key hub for the displaced, demonstrates solidarity and a readiness to welcome those affected by the conflict. Humanitarian organizations like 'Proliska' play a vital role in providing necessary support. However, the war's protracted nature and persistent threats cast doubt on the long-term stability and security of these new shelters. Therefore, it remains crucial to continue supporting initiatives that promote the safety and well-being of internally displaced persons.
