European Commission on benefits for Ukrainians in Poland: what position was expressed.
The European Commission commented on Poland's plans to reduce support for Ukrainians
According to inkorr.com: European Commission representative Markus Lampert noted that EU countries are obliged to ensure that Ukrainians who have received temporary protection have access to medical services and social benefits. At the same time, each state has the right to independently determine the scope of this assistance.
'Member states must provide persons with temporary protection the necessary assistance in the form of social security, medical care, and material resources if the beneficiaries themselves lack funds,' he stated.
Lampert also reminded that EU countries receive funding from European funds to alleviate the burden concerning the maintenance of war refugees.
Social support for temporary refugees
Ukrainians under temporary protection in Poland have the right to child benefits as well as free access to education and medical services. However, President Karol Nawrocki suspended the decision on the continuation of these benefits until March 2026, demanding that social assistance be received only by those Ukrainians who are officially employed. This issue has become a subject of discussion in parliament.
As a result of the war in Ukraine, about a million Ukrainians have arrived in Poland seeking safety. This country has remained an important ally and a transit corridor for humanitarian assistance to Ukraine.
The European Commission representative emphasized the necessity of providing support to Ukrainians who have received temporary protection while Poland is considering the possibility of limiting social benefits for this category of the population. It is important that Ukrainians affected by the war receive a decent standard of living and support in the countries where they seek refuge.Read also
