UN Refugee Agency to Provide Winter Aid in Sumy for 2026

According to Novyny.live: The UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) has resumed its operations in the Sumy region, enabling vulnerable groups to apply for financial assistance during the winter of 2026. This support is specifically for individuals holding the status of internally displaced persons (IDPs) or refugees. The program's return to this area is a significant development for humanitarian aid distribution in eastern Ukraine.

To qualify for this aid, an applicant's personal income must not exceed 6,300 Ukrainian hryvnias. The assistance will be provided as a monthly payment of 3,600 hryvnias per household member for a three-month period. Consequently, each eligible person will receive a total of 10,800 hryvnias over the full support term.

Registration Process

Registration for the cash assistance will take place at 15 Revolution of Dignity Street (vul. Revoliutsii Hidnosti, 15). The UNHCR press center emphasizes that registration is by appointment only, requiring individuals to join a queue for a scheduled reception time. This system is designed to ensure an organized and efficient process for distributing the necessary funds.

This financial aid from UNHCR aims to alleviate the economic strain on vulnerable populations, including IDPs and refugees. Given the heightened financial pressures often faced during winter months, this program can be crucial in helping beneficiaries cover basic needs like food and shelter. The resumption of the Agency's work in Sumy also reflects ongoing international efforts to support populations affected by conflict, potentially indicating improved conditions for delivering humanitarian aid in the region.
