Finland's Nuclear Weapons Ban to Be Repealed

According to TSN.ua: The Finnish government has announced its intent to revoke a long-standing prohibition against stationing nuclear weapons on its soil. This move is widely seen as a direct consequence of the nation's membership in the NATO alliance. The original legislation, part of the country's Nuclear Energy Act, was enacted back in 1987.

Finland's accession to NATO in 2023 marked a pivotal shift in its defense posture. The country shares a roughly 1,340-kilometer border with Russia, a fact that significantly heightens its security considerations. In a further step to bolster its defenses, Finland signed a defense cooperation agreement with the United States in 2024, granting U.S. forces access to 15 Finnish military facilities.

Unlike Finland, neighboring nations such as Sweden, Denmark, and Norway do not maintain legislative bans against the wartime deployment of nuclear weapons on their territories.
