Google acknowledged a critical failure in Pixel: wedding and event photos are disappearing.
According to ТСН: Imagine you are photographing at a concert or wedding, and then suddenly notice that all the shots have disappeared from your smartphone's memory and cloud storage. Such a problem has recently arisen for users of the Pixel series smartphones.
According to Android Authority, issues are observed among owners of several models, including Pixel 8a, Pixel 9a, Pixel 9, and Pixel 10.
How it happens
Users affected by this failure complain that the problem occurs when they take many shots in a short period of time.
The situation looks as follows:
The user is actively photographing.
A notification appears on the screen about processing photos in the background, which does not disappear.
As a result, the shots do not appear in the gallery or Google Photos.
Ghost files
Those who tried to resolve the issue themselves found unusual files in the system folders (DCIM).
“Several users report discovering unusual .JPG files in DCIM folders, all with the word 'pending' in the name and a size of zero bytes.”
This indicates that the smartphone generates a 'template' for the file but does not save the image to it.
Scope of the problem
At the moment, it is unknown how widespread this problem is. However, on Reddit, users report losing photos from important events such as birthdays, weddings, and vacations.
Journalists have reached out to Google for a comment on the reasons for these failures and the timeline for their resolution.
While the company has not released a patch, experts advise Pixel owners to check for important shots before putting their phones away.
Additionally, it is worth noting that power supply problems in Ukraine may affect the quality of communication and internet speed. During blackouts caused by Russian attacks, some mobile and internet users report a deterioration in these services.
This situation is particularly concerning for users who rely on their smartphones to capture important moments. With the holiday season approaching, the problem may affect even more people, so it is crucial to monitor the status of their devices and be prepared with solutions.
