Ukrainian Military Losses
In total, Russia has lost an estimated 1.2 million soldiers since the start of the full-scale war. It is also important to note that on February 4, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced a new figure for Ukrainian military fatalities on the front line: 55,000. These figures underscore the severe human cost borne by both sides in the conflict.
This information confirms the protracted and intense nature of the fighting between Ukraine and Russia, which has now continued for over a year. The high casualty figures for both Russian and Ukrainian forces highlight the immense humanitarian toll of the war and are likely to influence the future strategic calculations of both nations. Such sustained and mounting pressure, both militarily and societally, may eventually lead to shifts in war policy and the potential resumption of negotiations.
