The Bureau of Economic Security must investigate economic crimes: Hetmancev explained why it is a key reform.
The head of the Financial Committee of the Verkhovna Rada Danilo Hetmancev explained which institution in Ukraine should take on the investigation of crimes in the economic sphere. In his opinion, it should be the Bureau of Economic Security.
He stated this in an interview with Novyny.LIVE.
Hetmancev explained why the Bureau of Economic Security must investigate economic crimes
According to the committee head, the Security Service of Ukraine, the State Bureau of Investigation, or the police should not be involved in the investigation of financial offenses.
'The Bureau of Economic Security is the only body in the country that should investigate crimes in the economic sphere. Not the Security Service of Ukraine, not the State Bureau of Investigation, not the National Police, but only the Bureau of Economic Security. Business should have a single body to communicate with regarding various offenses. And it should work based on analytics, not on showy operations that have become traditional for law enforcement officials', - stated Hetmancev.
He also emphasized that the new head of the Bureau of Economic Security must be politically independent and have sufficient authority to implement reforms. This is important to avoid mistakes that have already been made in the past when creating the Bureau of Economic Security.
'We decided in 2020 to reboot the tax police and create a new body from scratch - the Bureau of Economic Security, but it turned out that we created it based on what existed. I publicly said back then that this was an absolute mistake and we would have trouble with it. And we have trouble because, in fact, the tax militia changed the nameplate, but the same people remained, the same methods, the same work in their pockets, everything is the same', - recalled Hetmancev.
Let us remind you that earlier Danilo Hetmancev named the most shadowy sector of the Ukrainian economy.
Also, the committee head of the Verkhovna Rada expressed his opinion about the gap in pensions between officials and ordinary Ukrainians.
According to Danilo Hetmancev's statement, the investigation of crimes in the economic sphere of Ukraine should be entrusted to the Bureau of Economic Security, not to other law enforcement agencies in the country.
