IAEA Director General discussed support for Ukrainian NPPs

Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Grossi discussed in Kyiv the support for Ukrainian NPPs with the heads of the Ministry of Energy, the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate, and Energoatom before his trip to the occupied Zaporizhzhia NPP. This was reported on Grossi's social media page X.

Began my 10th visit to Ukraine with meetings with Ukrainian Minister of Energy Herman Galushchenko, head of the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate Oleh Korikov, and President of Energoatom Petro Kotin, during which there was an exchange of views on our support for Ukrainian NPPs ahead of my visit to the ZNPP

Grossi emphasized that the IAEA is "fully committed to the safety and security of Ukrainian nuclear facilities, with a presence at each of them".

Only political steps are being taken to return the Zaporizhzhia NPP under Ukrainian control

President Volodymyr Zelensky during a working trip to Zaporizhzhia stated that today, only political steps are being taken to return the Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhia NPP under Ukrainian control, but they are not enough.

The Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant is one of the largest in Europe. In March 2022, the station was seized by Russian military forces. Currently, a large number of Russian soldiers are on the territory of the station, and there are also many weapons. From the territory of the station, the opposite bank of the former Kakhovka reservoir - Nikopol - is being shelled.

It was earlier reported that on September 3, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Grossi is going to the Zaporizhzhia NPP.

As reported, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Grossi will visit Kyiv and the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant after visiting the Kursk NPP.

Recall, Grossi visited and inspected the Kursk nuclear power plant.

According to the Institute for the Study of War, Russian officials tried to use the visit of the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Grossi to the Kursk nuclear power plant to portray Ukraine as a threat to a radiation incident that would undermine Western support for Ukraine.

Earlier, the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency Rafael Grossi stated that the nuclear safety situation at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant is deteriorating. According to him, this happened "after a drone strike that today hit the road near the NPP territory".
