Aftermath of the April 2 Shelling of Kharkiv
According to Novyny.live: On April 2, 2026, Russian forces struck Kharkiv, hitting the Osnovyansky and Kyivsky districts and leaving multiple casualties. A four-story building caught fire in Osnovyansky, and a storefront was damaged. Two people, including a young child, were injured and diagnosed with acute stress reactions. By 11:25 PM, a 64-year-old man was also among the wounded.
The assault extended beyond those areas. Around 7:30 PM in Korotych, a drone attack wounded two teenage boys, aged 17 and 16. At 8:35 PM in Berezivka, another man was hurt. According to reports, Russian forces carried out 11 separate strikes on Kharkiv’s Kyivsky district, signaling rising tensions in the region.
“The Russians shelled the Kyivsky district of the city 11 times,” said Mayor Ihor Terekhov.
Governor Oleh Syniehubov also confirmed damage to a store in Osnovyansky. This marks the first time Kharkiv has been targeted by jet-powered drones, underscoring a dangerous escalation in military tactics.
The April 2 shelling comes amid an escalating conflict between Ukraine and Russia, fueling serious concern among civilians and authorities. The increasing frequency of attacks on civilian infrastructure highlights a new phase of hostilities, severely deteriorating security in the region. It also underscores the urgent need for international support and attention to the war’s humanitarian toll.
