Eggs Do Not Raise Cholesterol: New Research Debunks Outdated Stereotypes

According to ТСН: Cooked or fried chicken eggs are not harmful to health. This popular breakfast for many does not raise cholesterol levels.

Recent studies have shown that what was previously believed to be true — that eggs lead to high cholesterol — is no longer the case. The real risk to the heart is not eggs, but saturated fats found in other foods.

“Eggs have long been unfairly discredited by outdated dietary recommendations. They are unique: yes, they contain a lot of cholesterol, but they have little saturated fat. However, it is the cholesterol level that often makes people doubt their place in a healthy diet,” said Professor John Buckley from the University of South Australia.

The study examined the effects of cholesterol and saturated fats. It turned out that moderate egg consumption along with low saturated fat intake does not raise levels of “bad” cholesterol.

According to information from the British National Health Service,

“eggs do contain some cholesterol. But despite this, saturated fats that we consume in food have a much greater effect on blood cholesterol levels than the cholesterol found in eggs.”
Thus, the cholesterol problem is not about eggs, but about saturated fats, and it is important to pay attention to how they are cooked.

This new data may reassure egg lovers, as it can now be stated with confidence that moderate egg consumption not only does no harm but can also be part of a healthy diet. It is also worth noting that avocados remain one of the foods that can lower levels of “bad” cholesterol, providing yet another healthy alternative to our diet.
