Industrial giant and cradle of the Cossacks. Zaporizhzhia celebrates City Day.
Today, October 5th, Zaporizhzhia celebrates City Day. This is a historical center founded in 1770. Modern Zaporizhzhia is a large industrial center with powerful enterprises in various industries. The city also houses many research institutions, such as Motor Sich and the Zaporizhzhia Automobile Plant.
History of the city
In the XV-XVII centuries, the territory of the modern city was part of Zaporizhzhia, the land of the Cossack liberties. On the island Khortytsia was located Khortytsia Sich - the first and only Sich located directly within the city limits. In 1770, the Alexandrovsk Fortress was founded on the site of modern Zaporizhzhia, and in 1806 the settlement received the status of a district town under the name Alexandrovsk. In 1921, the city was renamed to Zaporizhzhia, and in 1939 it became a regional center.

- Zaporizhzhia is home to Sobornyi Avenue, one of the largest avenues in the world, with a length of 10800 meters.
- Dnipro Hydroelectric Station - a dam 50 meters high.
- On Khortytsia Island, there is a museum of the Zaporizhzhia Sich and a museum of shipping.
- The city has a children's railway - a 9-kilometer track where real trains run in a reduced scale.
Celebration program
Due to increased tensions from martial law, mass festive events have been canceled. But citizens of Zaporizhzhia still have the opportunity to attend various City Day events. In Besha cafe, there will be a market featuring sweets and various dishes from local entrepreneurs. Also, at VILLA DEL VINO estate, a fair will be held, and in the evening, young artist Parfeniuk will perform. In the Zaporizhzhia Regional Philharmonic, the opening of the 68th symphonic season will take place with the participation of Ukraine's People's Artist Oksana Rapita.
Recently, the city of Zaporizhzhia was shelled by Russian occupiers.
