WP journalists: more than 240 Russian soldiers were captured

Journalists from the Washington Post reviewed hundreds of photos and videos of Russians captured during the Ukrainian army's offensive in the Kursk region of the Russian Federation. As a result of their analysis, they concluded that at least 240 Russian soldiers were captured. This is reported in the WP material.

For analysis, journalists reviewed photos and videos taken by Ukrainian military personnel and a WP photographer who visited a prison in Ukraine where Russian prisoners were held.

The analysis shows that at least 247 Russian soldiers were captured in the Kursk region, confirming Ukrainian officials' statements about capturing hundreds of Russians.

At the same Time, journalists note that new videos and photos with captured Russians still appear on the network. It should also be noted that the analysis did not include footage that could not be independently verified. This means that the actual number of Russian prisoners turned out to be much greater.

The head of a prison in northeastern Ukraine, where Russian soldiers captured in the Kursk region are held, told a WP journalist that 320 Russians passed through his prison within 10 days of this month.

According to him, about 80% of the Russian soldiers held in the Ukrainian prison are conscripts.

Change of war: The AFU demonstrated the vulnerability of the Russian army

During the Kursk operation, Ukrainian troops demonstrated vulnerable points in the Russian army. This is also a signal to Kyiv's allies that Ukraine is capable of changing the course of the war.

President Volodymyr Zelensky signed laws concerning the military, in particular, the status of Ukrainian troops fighting on Russian territory.

The Verkhovna Rada supported a bill guaranteeing soldiers fighting in the Kursk region and other territories of the Russian Federation the same payments and benefits as on the front lines.
