Cabinet approved a decree on the protection of the rights of children deported to Russia.
The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine adopted a decree on the protection of the rights of children who were deported or forcibly displaced due to the armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine.
According to the Ministry of Justice, the implementation of this decree will contribute to improving the process of collecting, analyzing, and accounting for information about such children, as well as contribute to their return to Ukraine and data exchange with international organizations to stop violations of international humanitarian law by the aggressor state.
"An important step in this process will be the creation and maintenance of a special Register of information about children who were deported or forcibly displaced due to the armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine (hereinafter referred to as the Register). This Register will be an important tool for finding and returning such children to Ukraine. The Register will allow state authorities to effectively work with information about each child, in particular, to quickly verify information and exchange data with international organizations, such as the International Committee of the Red Cross," the Ministry of Justice emphasized.
According to the decree, the Register will be created and maintained by the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine, and the state enterprise "National Information Systems" will be the administrator.
To ensure the accuracy and relevance of information, the decree provides for the creation of an Interdepartmental Commission for the verification of data on children who were deported or forcibly displaced due to the armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine.
This commission will deal with the verification of information about children. It will include representatives of several ministries, which will allow combining the efforts of various departments for the effective protection of children's interests, the Ministry of Justice reported.
The document also provides for active cooperation with international organizations. The Ministry of Justice, together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, plans regular information exchange with international partners, particularly with the Red Cross, to ensure the protection of children's interests in the international arena.
