Ukrainian Army Captain in Odesa Region Convicted on Illegal Weapons Charges
According to Novyny.live: A Ukrainian military serviceman has been found guilty of illegally storing and transporting weapons and ammunition in the Odesa region. The captain of the Armed Forces of Ukraine was in possession of an AK-74M Kalashnikov assault rifle and 474 rounds of 5.45 mm ammunition. The weapons were discovered at the 'Tsentrolit' checkpoint on the M-14 highway near Odesa. This case highlights the ongoing legal challenges surrounding weapons control in Ukraine during wartime.
The court sentenced the serviceman to three years in prison but suspended the sentence with a one-year probationary period. The rifle and ammunition, found during a search, were confiscated as state property and transferred to Ukraine's Ministry of Defense. Additionally, the serviceman was ordered to pay over 3,500 hryvnias to cover the costs of the forensic examination.
