Creation of an Alternative Orthodox Church in Kazakhstan
In Kazakhstan, plans are underway to establish an alternative Orthodox Church that would allow for avoidance of Kremlin control. This initiative is led by Turarbek Kusaynov, who has reached out to the Orthodox Church of Ukraine for support. It is planned to create a religious organization and submit a request to Constantinople with the aim of obtaining a blessing for the establishment of a Constantinople exarchate in Kazakhstan. The initiative leader believes that this will help free Kazakh Orthodoxy from Russian influence.Despite resistance from the Russian Orthodox Church (ROC), activists are hopeful for success and believe that the new church will be independent from the Russian church and political influence from Russia. The new church structure could be an important step towards religious autonomy in Kazakhstan, where Orthodoxy has its history but is mostly under the control of the Moscow Patriarchate. If this initiative is realized, it will open new opportunities for the development of the local community and strengthen their religious positions without external pressure.Read also
