Ukrainian Cyber Police Issue Alert

According to Novyny.live: The Cyber Police of Ukraine has issued a public warning concerning a new fraudulent operation exploiting promises of free fuel. In this scam, users are offered 10 liters of gasoline in exchange for subscribing to a Telegram channel. The scheme has gained traction, prompting the Cyber Police to share details through their official Telegram channel.

How the Fraudulent Operation Works

Scammers send messages containing links to phishing pages. On these pages, victims are prompted to enter their phone number and a confirmation code received via SMS or Telegram. They are then instructed to subscribe to a Telegram channel to receive the promised fuel voucher. According to the Cyber Police, within 24 hours, the fraudsters terminate the user's active session and enable two-factor authentication on the account. This action makes it significantly more difficult for the legitimate owner to regain access.

The Cyber Police urge citizens to exercise extreme caution and not fall for such schemes, as criminals use these methods to harvest personal data and gain control of victims' accounts.

This report underscores the critical need for vigilance amid escalating cybercrime risks.

Scams leveraging popular themes like free goods or services are becoming increasingly common, and victims can suffer substantial losses. Citizens must remain alert and critically evaluate any offer that seems too good to be true. Such social engineering tactics are a global issue, often preying on economic concerns to appear more convincing.
