Kyiv Merges Schools and Kindergartens to Maintain In-Person Learning Amidst Attacks.
Educational Institutions Merged in Kyiv
According to Novyny.live: To preserve in-person education following damage to critical infrastructure, Kyiv has temporarily merged kindergartens and schools. This decision was made after a major attack on February 12th. Even before that assault, 150 educational buildings were already without heating; the attack damaged an additional 165 facilities, severely compounding the crisis.
Examples of Merged Institutions
The mergers have taken place across five districts of the capital. For instance, Gymnasium No. 11 has taken in students from Primary School No. 103, ensuring the educational process continues where some buildings lack heating. Additionally, nearly 40 children from Kindergarten No. 44 are now temporarily housed in the facilities of Kindergarten No. 559.
"Where there is currently no heat, there are nearby schools and kindergartens with proper conditions that are accepting children from neighboring institutions. This allows us to preserve in-person learning in a safe environment."
Valentyn Mondryivskyi
This merging of institutions represents a crucial step in maintaining the educational process in Ukraine's capital. It demonstrates the education system's adaptation to the immense challenges posed by warfare and infrastructure damage. These efforts are part of a broader, resilient response to keep children in school despite the ongoing conflict.
The temporary consolidation allows the educational process to continue despite difficult conditions, ensuring children have access to learning in a safe environment. This approach could serve as a model for other regions facing similar hardships due to the war.
