Kyiv Moves All Universities and Vocational Schools to Remote Learning.
Remote Learning Implemented in Kyiv
According to Novyny.live: All higher education institutions and vocational schools in Kyiv are shifting to a remote learning format. This decision applies to every university and professional-technical school operating in the capital. The move comes as a direct response to the worsening energy situation across Ukraine and the threat of potential blackouts.
Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal stated that Kyiv's authorities were unable to adequately prepare the capital for possible power outages, which prompted the switch to distance education. A separate decision regarding the city's schools is still pending from the Kyiv City State Administration's Department of Education and Science.
Status of Kyiv's Schools
The situation for schools is more complex. As noted by Kateryna Pop, most schools in Kyiv are currently serving a dual purpose as 'Points of Invincibility'—civilian support hubs—which means their facilities are generally well-equipped for continued use.
This transition to remote learning is a precautionary measure to ensure educational continuity amid the heightened risk of severe blackouts that could disrupt normal operations. The decision primarily affects universities and vocational colleges, though changes to the school schedule are also anticipated pending the city administration's final ruling.
