China accuses the USA of piracy: oil tanker pretended to be Russian.
According to ТСН: China has accused the United States of America of serious violations of international law.
The relevant information was published by the spokesperson of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Beijing expressed its outrage after the USA seized two oil tankers linked to Venezuela, which were under sanctions.
“China has always opposed illegal unilateral sanctions that are not supported by international law and do not have the permission of the UN Security Council,” said spokesperson Mao Ning.
Russia also expressed similar accusations after the seizure of one of the tankers that was under the Russian flag. The head of the Federation Council's committee on state construction, Andrey Klishas, described these actions as “outright piracy.”
US Vice President Jay D. Vance noted that the oil tanker pretended to be Russian to avoid sanctions. He added that in December the vessel did not allow American authorities to board, and then switched to Russian registration under the name Marinera to receive protection from the Russian Federation.
This situation demonstrates the growing tension between states related to attempts to evade sanctions, as well as superpowers responding to legal and ethical issues arising in modern international relations. The further development of events could significantly impact global energy markets and the geopolitical situation in the region.
