Chinese ship suspected of damaging cable in the Baltic Sea received instructions from Russians.
The Wall Street Journal reports that the Chinese ship Yi Peng 3, suspected of damaging telecommunications cables in the Baltic Sea, received instructions from Russian intelligence. According to the publication, Russian intelligence instructed the ship's captain to damage the cables using an anchor. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov rejects these accusations and calls them absurd.
In international waters of the Baltic Sea, a German military ship encountered the Russian corvette 'Mercury'. During the encounter, Russian vessels fired signal rockets towards the German ship, prompting its return. No one was harmed.
Confrontation in the Baltic Region
This incident is part of an escalating confrontation between Russia and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization in Europe. The Baltic region is becoming a key hotspot of tension between the parties. Russia uses Baltic ports to service its fleet, as Turkey denies passage through the Bosphorus to Russian warships. The current stronghold of the Russian fleet is Syria, but Moscow could be pushed out of there after a regime change in the country.
The consequences of these events may lead to further clashes in the Baltic Sea.
