The Climate of Ukraine is Changing: Hydrometeorological Consequences for Regions

According to inkorr.com: In Ukraine, the consequences of global climate change have already been recorded. There is an increase in the frequency of extreme precipitation in the south and prolonged droughts in the east. Even residents of cities such as Kyiv and Odesa feel these changes, notes Senior Scientist of the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center and the National Antarctic Center Anastasia Chyhareva.

“Adverse phenomena will only increase. The atmosphere is warming, humidity is rising, the ocean is warming – all this interacts and leads to the intensification of meteorological phenomena,” explains the scientist.

According to the data from the Hydrometeorological Center, on September 30, 2025, Odesa received 94 mm of rain, which is 224% of the monthly norm. This indicates an increase in the intensity of precipitation in this region. At the same time, prolonged droughts continue in eastern Ukraine, and dust storms and hail are becoming more frequent.

Global climate change is already negatively affecting Ukraine, confirming the increase in the intensity of precipitation and prolonged droughts. Scientists note that these phenomena will only worsen in the future due to rising temperatures and humidity in the atmosphere.

The situation with climate change in Ukraine is a worrying signal not only for scientists but for society as a whole. The response of people, local authorities, and government bodies to these challenges will be crucial in the fight against climate change. The warnings of scientists, particularly Anastasia Chyhareva, emphasize the need for effective measures to mitigate the negative consequences for the environment and national economy.
