Great Britain and France are ready to deploy troops in Ukraine: who else will join.
According to ТСН: The idea of creating a 'coalition of the willing', which aims to ensure security in Ukraine, is gaining momentum. Great Britain and France, as leading military powers in Europe with a nuclear arsenal, have already signed a declaration of intent to deploy their troops in Ukraine in the event of a peace agreement.
The format of the 'coalition of the willing' is not accidental: it allows NATO countries to act together, but without the official structure of the Alliance or the EU, which allows circumventing the vetoes of countries like Hungary or Slovakia.
The media analyzed who among the partners is ready for decisive steps and who takes a cautious stance.
Who is 'FOR': Great Britain, France, Spain, Turkey
Great Britain and France are leaders in this process. After the meeting of European leaders on January 6, London characterized the initiative as 'multinational forces'.
Spain has also expressed its readiness. Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez stated:
'We are ready to strengthen peace with the presence of Spanish armed forces. If we have done this in other parts of the world, why not do it in Europe?'
Turkey, which has one of the largest armies in NATO, is ready to join the mission at sea. Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan emphasized that the Turkish navy could take responsibility for security in the Black Sea.
Who hesitates: Finland, Canada, Australia
The position of Finland remains uncertain. While the foreign minister has stated 'unequivocal' participation, the prime minister ruled out participation in combat actions, and President Alexander Stubb noted after the January 6 meeting that the country's role still needs to be determined.
Canada and Australia express support and willingness to discuss, but have not yet confirmed plans to send their troops.
Who is against deploying troops in Ukraine
Some key partners of Ukraine are ready to provide financial and logistical support but have no intention of sending their soldiers to Ukrainian territory.
Germany. Chancellor Friedrich Merz noted that the country could participate in monitoring the ceasefire regime, but only from the territory of neighboring NATO countries.
'Germany will continue to contribute politically, financially, and militarily. This may involve deploying forces to Ukraine from neighboring NATO territory after a ceasefire.'
Poland. Prime Minister Donald Tusk emphasized that Warsaw plays an important role in logistics and organization, but sending Polish troops directly to Ukraine is not planned.
Italy. Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni confirmed support for Ukraine's security but reiterated that Rome would not deploy its troops on Ukrainian territory.
Neighboring Romania also does not plan to send its troops to Ukraine but is ready to enhance security in the Black Sea.
Belgium. Prime Minister Bart De Wever stated that the country would take part in ensuring peace after the fighting ends by providing air and naval capabilities, as well as facilitating training.
Recall that Mark Rutte confirmed the readiness of European countries to send troops to Ukraine. However, the NATO Secretary General did not specify which countries could do this.
These events reflect the activation of international efforts aimed at enhancing security in Ukraine amid the ongoing conflict. Countries ready to cooperate see their responsibility in stabilizing the region, while the caution of other states illustrates the complexity of the political situation in Europe. This highlights the importance of diplomacy and interaction between countries to achieve peace and security on the continent.
