Chernihiv Completely Without Electricity and Water: How the City Operates During the Blackout

According to inkorr.com: Chernihiv has been left without electricity and water due to

"the Russian drone attack"
. This was reported by the Chernihiv Water Utility. Since the morning, utility workers have been working on partially restoring water supply using alternative energy sources.

Water Supply Situation in Chernihiv on October 21, 2025

From early morning, the company's employees are making every effort to

"restore the water supply"
with pressure at least for the lower floors of apartment buildings. According to representatives of the Chernihiv Water Utility, the main goal is to provide water to as many residents as possible.

To alleviate the situation for the city's residents, a number of measures have already been taken:

  • Delivery of water by tanker trucks to certain areas
  • Activation of water column taps located near apartment buildings
  • Informing the population about exact locations and times of water delivery through additional notifications

"We are making every effort to ensure the water supply with pressure at the level of the lower floors of apartment buildings. We ask residents to prepare water supplies in advance," the company stated.

Problems with the Sewage System

The sewage system situation is also causing serious problems. According to the Chernihiv Water Utility, the task is not only to provide people with water but also to organize wastewater disposal. This requires the activation and control of over 20 pumping stations, which is a complicated process under conditions of complete electricity outage.

Recall that attacks on the energy infrastructure of Chernihiv region began on the evening of October 20 and continued throughout the night. The shelling resulted in the disruption of electricity supply not only in Chernihiv but also in Slavutych, as well as in certain areas of Kyiv and Chernihiv regions. Utility services are operating in emergency mode, trying to stabilize the situation for life support.

These events highlight the vulnerability of infrastructure during military conflicts. Utility services are making maximum effort to maintain the city's viability during this difficult time, but the situation will remain tense until electricity supply is restored. Residents must be prepared for possible prolonged outages of water and electricity.
