Ukrainian Commander Accused of Selling Military Drones in $400,000 Scheme.
Corruption Investigation Targets Ukrainian Military Unit
According to Novyny.live: A commander within the Armed Forces of Ukraine is under investigation for allegedly orchestrating a scheme to embezzle and sell military drones totaling 15,233,439 hryvnias (approximately $400,000). Law enforcement officials report that the suspect misappropriated over 343 unmanned aerial vehicles of various models, pointing to systemic abuse within his command. This case has drawn significant public attention amid ongoing efforts to root out corruption in Ukraine's defense sector.
The operation ran from November 2024 to March 2026, during which the commander illegally acquired assets worth more than 10.7 million hryvnias in 2025 alone. Searches conducted by authorities uncovered:
- 1,483,700 hryvnias in cash;
- DJI Matrice 4T and DJI Mavic 4 Pro quadcopters;
- Toyota Land Cruiser 200 and Mercedes-Benz GL 350 CDI vehicles;
- Documents for an Audi Q7 and a Mercedes-Benz G-Class;
- Fake currency bundles totaling $50,000;
- Real estate documentation.
Legal Proceedings and Public Concerns
The suspect faces charges under Article 410, Part 4, and Article 368-5, Part 1 of Ukraine's Criminal Code. Investigators are working to identify all individuals involved, as the scheme spanned multiple regions, including Donetsk, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, and Dnipropetrovsk. The case has sparked widespread unease over corruption within military ranks, especially given Ukraine's ongoing conflict with Russia.
