Non-payment of traffic fines: what are the consequences of property arrest and vehicle confiscation

According to inkorr.com: Ukrainian drivers are reminded that ignoring fines for traffic violations can lead to property arrest or even vehicle confiscation. This is reported by the publication “Your CAR”.

“If the fine is not paid within 15 days, the ruling is transferred to the enforcement service. And then a completely different story begins – with arrests and forced collections,” explains lawyer Oleksandr Gryny.

After this, a state or private executor may block the debtor's bank accounts, and funds may be automatically deducted without warning. If there are insufficient funds in the accounts, property, including the vehicle, is seized.

What sanctions are applied to fine debtors

Lawyers emphasize that the consequences of non-payment of the fine can be serious:

  • arrest of bank accounts and automatic deduction of funds;

  • blocking or seizure of the vehicle;

  • seizure of other property — apartments, equipment, land plots;

  • entry into the debtor database and prohibition of traveling abroad.

According to Oleksandr Gryny, there were cases when people’s cards were blocked due to a fine of 510 hryvnias, and the amount of debt tripled due to enforcement fees and additional charges.

How to avoid problems

Experts recommend that drivers regularly check their fines — this can be done through the Ministry of Internal Affairs portal, in the “Diia” application, or through online banking. If the ruling was issued automatically, it can be paid with a 50% discount within the first 10 days.

If a driver believes the fine is unlawful, they must urgently contact the court — the deadline for appealing is also 10 days.

It was previously reported that Ukraine plans to introduce a points penalty system for drivers based on European models.

Given the information provided, it is important to remember the responsibility for violating traffic rules, as the consequences can be quite serious. By keeping track of their fines and adhering to payment deadlines, drivers can avoid many problems, keeping their funds and property safe.
