A resident of Moldova attempted to transport undeclared goods worth about one million hryvnias to the Odesa region. However, border guards caught him red-handed, so the man faces a significant fine.

This was reported by the Southern Regional Department of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.

Details of the case

At the 'Reni-auto' checkpoint, border guards thwarted an attempt to illegally import a large batch of goods. They were trying to transport these under the guise of humanitarian aid without proper declaration.

The MAN vehicle, driven by a citizen of Moldova, was subjected to an in-depth inspection. As a result of the check, the border guards discovered undeclared goods, which consisted of knitwear, medical supplies, and personal hygiene items. The estimated value of the detected goods was over 1 million hryvnias.

The goods were confiscated pending resolution in court.

What punishment is threatened

The actions of the individual correspond to Part 2 of Article 471 of the Customs Code of Ukraine (undeclaration of goods crossing the customs border), for which he will have to pay a fine of 30% of the value of the products he attempted to import.

As a reminder, we previously wrote about an attempt to smuggle medicines into the Odesa region. There was also information about a man who tried to take an antique icon out of Ukraine.
