Corruption in the Funeral Sector of Ukraine: How Body Hunters Profit from Death

According to inkorr.com: Corruption cases have been recorded in the funeral services sector in Ukraine. According to Le Monde, 'body hunters' have become active over the past three years, leading to an increase in corrupt schemes.

Shadow Ritual Business

An employee of the 'Anubis' funeral bureau revealed the practice of his supervisor, who organizes 'races' at the sites of tragedies to offer his services to the relatives of the deceased as quickly as possible. Competition in this field is very high, and financial rewards are offered to police, hospitals, and morgues to obtain information about deaths.

Manager Mykhailo Serebryakov confirmed that such practices have existed for a long time, even before the escalation of the conflict with Russia. He noted that during the war, prices for funeral services have significantly increased.

Hidden Corruption

Employee of 'Anubis' also revealed the mechanism of payments to informants who receive rewards for information about the deceased. He noted that colleagues today are forced to pass data through the headquarters for payment.

Investigations by journalists found that some officials are involved in corrupt schemes during military funerals, receiving money from funeral agencies. This harms the families of the deceased, who incur excessive expenses during these tragic times.

Fighting Corruption

The Ministry of Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine has prepared a plan to combat corruption in the ritual sector, recognizing secret agreements with law enforcement and medical personnel as violations of the rights of the families of the fallen.

Journalists also noted the growing popularity of 'green funerals' as an ecological alternative to traditional ones, involving the use of biodegradable materials to reduce the negative impact on the environment.

Such illegal agreements and corruption in the ritual sphere not only inflict financial damage on the families of the deceased but also threaten the dignity of their farewells. The government is already taking steps to curb these criminal practices and restore order in Ukraine's funeral industry.

The situation surrounding corruption in funeral services has caused public outrage. The issue of ethics and dignity during funerals requires urgent resolution. As the war continues, it is crucial that the families of the fallen do not face additional hardships during such difficult times.
