Yellow level of danger in Ukraine: fog and black ice paralyze traffic in regions.
According to ТСН: A yellow level of danger has been declared in Ukraine due to dense fog, black ice, and snowdrifts that have complicated traffic in several regions. Rescuers are working on saving patients in need of medical assistance, while the capital has seen an increase in the number of accidents due to dangerous road conditions.
Rivne region: rescue by hand
In the Rivne region, the severe weather nearly led to a tragic incident. A woman could have had a stroke, and the ambulance could not reach her home due to snowdrifts. Rescuers arrived to help and carried the patient by hand several hundred meters to the ambulance, which was later towed to a cleared section of the road.
Zhytomyr region: bus in a trap
In the Zhytomyr region, service operators faced a similar situation. A scheduled bus got stuck in a snowdrift with 15 passengers on board. The driver tried to free the vehicle himself, but unsuccessfully. Only thanks to the special equipment of the State Emergency Service was it possible to extract the people from the trap, accompanied by joyful cries from the rescued.
Lviv: blackout and transport collapse
In Lviv, in addition to issues with electricity supply, a heavy snowfall is observed. Social media posts show trolleybuses standing in line and unable to move. Local residents complain about the lack of snowplows: trucks are getting stuck on slippery inclines, creating huge traffic jams.
Kyiv: accidents and mass injuries
The situation in the capital is critical due to icing. Overnight rain has turned into an icy surface. Utility services cannot keep up with the clearing of sidewalks, which has caused outrage on social media.
Accident statistics: in the morning, there were 31 accidents in Kyiv, and 185 in total across Ukraine.
Mass collision: a traffic accident involving 13 cars was reported on Dniprovska Street. This situation is colloquially referred to as 'cups': one driver lost control, and others 'caught up' with the previous cars due to failing to maintain distance on ice.
Injured: over the day, 62 people sought help at Kyiv's trauma centers, eight of whom required hospitalization for serious injuries.
Who is responsible for clearing the ice
Rescuers remind: the cleanliness of sidewalks is the responsibility not only of utility services, but also of shop and enterprise owners. There can be regulations and significant fines for unsatisfactory cleaning of adjacent territories.
Utility services assure that there are 350 areas in the capital that are treated as a priority, but the volume of work is enormous.
Weather forecast
Forecasters from the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center warn that it is too early to relax. In the coming night, a strengthening of frosts and new snowfalls are expected. Visibility on the roads due to fog will not exceed 300-500 meters.
The current situation in the country demonstrates how important it is to prepare properly for winter conditions. The risks arising from icing and snowdrifts require increased attention from drivers and pedestrians. Such weather can become a serious test for all participants in road traffic, so it is especially important to follow the news and recommendations from rescuers.
