Ozzy Osbourne has died: the legend of the Black Sabbath band did not survive the illness.
The legend of rock has passed away
At the age of 76, Ozzy Osbourne, the leader and vocalist of the band Black Sabbath, has died. In a statement from his family, it says:
“With immense sadness that words cannot express, we are forced to announce that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne passed away this morning. He was with family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family's privacy in this difficult time.”
Founders of the style
Hailing from Birmingham, England, Ozzy Osbourne and his band Black Sabbath gained fame in the early 1970s as some of the founders of the heavy metal style and are considered one of the brightest phenomena in rock music history. Together, Black Sabbath, and then separately Ozzy, who was expelled from the band in 1979 due to alcoholism and drugs, sold over 100 million albums and were inducted into the American Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Just two weeks ago, Ozzy and Black Sabbath gave their farewell concert at Villa Park stadium in their hometown of Birmingham. The band reunited for the first time in 20 years in its classic lineup — with Ozzy as the vocalist, along with guitarist Tony Iommi, bassist Geezer Butler, and drummer Bill Ward. During the concert, Osbourne, who could no longer walk due to illness, sat on a black throne with bats on the back. Ozzy suffered from Parkinson's disease but sang, gestured, and metaphorically 'metalized' with lightning in his eyes, as in past times.
Reality Show
Ozzy also had a solo career. Back in 1993, his live album Live & Loud became multi-platinum (this was already the era of not only vinyl records but also CDs), in 1995 his hits Perry Mason and I Just Want You played in every café and at every disco.
Then, in 2002, Ozzy, along with his wife and manager Sharon and their children Kelly and Jack, launched the reality show The Osbournes on American MTV — and the four seasons of this show made them television stars as well. The last album Ozzy, now 73, released in the fall of 2022, and he performed on stage for the last time then. Ozzy Osbourne was twice inducted into the UK Music Hall of Fame and the US Rock and Roll Hall of Fame — as part of Black Sabbath and as a solo artist. He has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and five Grammy Awards, for which he was nominated 12 times.
Ozzy Osbourne, the leader of the band Black Sabbath and a true rock music legend, passed away at the age of 76. He will be remembered by generations of fans for his unparalleled music, charisma, and contribution to the development of heavy rock.
