What Ukrainians in Canada Can Expect This July: New Benefits, Healthcare Changes, and Immigration Updates.
Fresh Financial Aid for Ukrainians Living in Canada
According to Novyny.live: Starting in July 2023, Ukrainian nationals residing in Canada will gain access to new social benefits, adjustments to healthcare services, and extended immigration support. These measures are designed to offer crucial relief to families facing challenging circumstances.
The new Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit kicks off in July, providing direct payments to help with everyday costs. Eligible individuals can receive up to 679 Canadian dollars, while couples may qualify for up to 890 dollars. Additionally, families will get 234 dollars for each child under the age of 19. This initiative aims to ease the financial pressure on Ukrainian households across the country.
Healthcare Adjustments and Immigration Extensions
From July 10, 2023, the Advanced Canada Workers Benefit will begin disbursing funds. Under this program, single workers can receive up to 1,665 dollars per year, and working families may get up to 2,869 dollars annually. Then, on July 20, 2023, families with children will see the next round of Canada Child Benefit payments. After indexing, the maximum annual support now exceeds 8,100 Canadian dollars per child under six years old.
However, healthcare costs are also shifting. Ukrainians will now need to pay 4 Canadian dollars for prescription medications and cover roughly 30% of costs for dental, vision, and psychological services. These out-of-pocket expenses could strain household budgets, especially for those already navigating new socioeconomic realities.
On the immigration front, the Canadian government has extended special provisions for Ukrainians who arrived in the country by the end of 2024. Applications to renew open work permits can now be submitted until March 31, 2027. This extension provides more time for Ukrainians to adapt to their new environment and continue building their careers in Canada.
Overall, July 2023 marks a pivotal period for Ukrainians in Canada, as new social payments, healthcare policy changes, and prolonged immigration benefits will significantly shape their daily lives. These steps are intended to alleviate the socioeconomic hardships faced by Ukrainian newcomers and foster smoother integration and growth in their new home. Canada’s commitment to supporting Ukrainians during this difficult time also signals a lasting impact on the country’s immigration landscape.
