According to ТСН: A fox was spotted again in the Chernobyl Reserve — a common predator that often appears near roads, hunts rodents, and avoids cameras.

According to the Chernobyl Radiation and Ecological Biosphere Reserve, 'Curious, inventive, cunning, and independent, the fox is the closest relative to... the wolf and dog, as it belongs to the canine family. The common or red fox is not a rare predator, so it can often be seen in the territory of the Chernobyl Reserve. Like all wild animals, foxes do not like to be photographed, especially in profile. Therefore, every such shot is a small success for nature observers.'

The common fox, also known as the red fox, is the most widespread representative of the genus Vulpes. It has characteristic red fur, a light belly, dark legs, and a fluffy tail. This animal is carnivorous-scavenging, its primary diet consisting of rodents, although it sometimes includes birds, insects, fruits, and carrion, adapting it to the environment.

Habitat and Reproduction

The fox is capable of living in various landscapes—from tundra and deserts to forests, mountains, and the outskirts of large cities. They reproduce in winter, and a litter can consist of four to over ten pups. In the wild, their lifespan averages three years, while in captivity it can be significantly longer. This species is widely distributed and inhabits the entire territory of Ukraine.

It should be noted that near the Chernobyl exclusion zone, volunteers recorded dogs with unusually blue fur. An expert notes that there is nothing strange about it.

The presence of foxes in the Chernobyl Reserve indicates the recovery of the ecosystem after the nuclear power plant disaster. This confirms that animals are still returning to areas where people no longer live and are trying to adapt to new conditions. The situation with dogs having unusual fur color also piques the interest of researchers and naturalists.
