Fire on the airline's plane in Antalya

In November, a fire broke out in the engine of a Sukhoi Superjet 100 belonging to the Russian airline 'Azimuth' at Antalya airport. It occurred because the plane 'bounced' during landing and punctured the fuel tank with its landing gear. Another similar problem arose at Yakutsk airport when the plane again punctured the fuel tanks due to an uneven runway. The issue with the landing gear could not be resolved after the previous incident.

Cause of the Sukhoi Superjet 100 engine fire

During the landing of the Sukhoi Superjet 100 at Antalya airport, an engine fire occurred because the plane 'bounced' – it rebounded from the runway. This led to the landing gear puncturing the fuel tank and igniting a fire near the engine. The same incident occurred with the Sukhoi Superjet 100 at Yakutsk airport. There, too, the landing gear punctured the fuel tank due to an uneven runway. This issue was already known after the incident at Sheremetyevo airport in 2019, when a plane caught fire and people died. However, the aircraft design has not been corrected.

Previous incidents with Sukhoi Superjet 100 aircraft

In 2019, a Sukhoi Superjet 100 of 'Aeroflot' caught fire at Sheremetyevo airport after striking the runway due to bounce. There were 78 people on board, 41 of whom died. The commander of the crew responsible for the landing was sentenced to six years in prison. A similar incident occurred at Yakutsk airport with a Sukhoi Superjet 100 when it punctured fuel tanks during landing due to an uneven runway. Regarding the recent incident in Antalya, there were no fatalities.
