Lviv Commemorates Victims of Il-76 Crash with 'Silence Kills Captives' Rally.
Lviv Hosts 'Silence Kills Captives' Rally
According to Novyny.live: On January 24, 2024, a rally titled 'Silence Kills Captives' was held in Lviv to show support for missing and captured Ukrainian defenders. The event coincided with the second anniversary of the Il-76 aircraft disaster in Russia's Belgorod region. Participants gathered at the Taras Shevchenko monument to honor the memory of those who perished. Such public commemorations are a common feature of civic life in Ukraine, highlighting the ongoing human cost of the conflict.
Demands of the Rally Participants
During the rally, participants voiced their demands, calling for increased pressure on the Kremlin. Their slogan was:
“Heroes live as long as we remember them”. In November 2024, Russia handed over the bodies of those killed in the air disaster to Ukraine, and DNA testing confirmed the identities of some of the fallen defenders. Most of the identified soldiers were laid to rest at Lychakiv Cemetery in Lviv.
The 'Silence Kills Captives' rally served as a crucial event to draw public attention to the plight of the missing and prisoners of war. Initiatives like this help preserve the memory of heroes who gave their lives for their country.
This action underscores the importance of public awareness regarding military losses and their consequences for families and society as a whole. By honoring the fallen, rally participants advocate for the active protection of the rights of POWs and the missing, a vital step toward restoring justice and supporting those who have lost loved ones. Such events help keep the memory of tragedies alive and bolster national consciousness during times of crisis.
