Dentist Convicted in Bribery Case

According to Novyny.live: A court in Lviv's Shevchenkivskyi district has convicted a dentist for demanding a bribe in exchange for arranging a military service deferral. The court imposed a fine of 93,5 thousand hryvnias on the doctor.

Case Details

According to the case details, in September 2024, the doctor offered to help a conscripted man for $4,500. He promised to provide a Military Medical Commission (VLC) conclusion declaring limited fitness for service. During the investigation, the doctor partially admitted his guilt. It is known that he received $4,500, which turned out to be marked funds used in a sting operation.

Additionally, the court ordered the doctor to return 242 thousand hryvnias in bail to the surety. This decision resulted from the trial, in which the dentist attempted to exploit his professional position for illicit gain. This case highlights ongoing anti-corruption efforts within Ukraine's judicial system, particularly in sectors related to the national mobilization. The ruling demonstrates the legal risks for medical professionals who abuse their authority during the ongoing conflict.

The dentist's conviction is part of a broader campaign by Ukrainian law enforcement to combat corruption, especially under martial law. Such cases underscore the critical importance of medical ethics and transparency in providing services, a vital concern when many citizens require assistance with military matters. The court's decision may serve as a warning to other healthcare workers about the consequences of corrupt actions and the necessity of adhering to the law in Ukraine.
