Hungarian Politician Magyar Signals Readiness for Zelenskyy Meeting, Sets Key Condition.
Ukraine-Hungary Summit Prospects Emerge
According to Espreso.tv: Hungarian figure Magyar has declared his willingness to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy as early as next week. The encounter, however, hinges on the successful conclusion of technical discussions concerning the rights of the Hungarian minority in Ukraine. Magyar emphasized his openness to holding talks at the highest diplomatic level.
Diplomatic Talks and Bilateral Ties
He has also previously confirmed he would be prepared to sit down with Zelenskyy in the Zakarpattia region. Furthermore, Magyar stated he would support opening negotiation clusters for Ukraine's accession to the European Union—provided that demands related to national minority rights are fully addressed.
This announcement signals a potential thaw in Ukraine-Hungary relations, which have been strained in recent years largely due to disagreements over minority protections. The significance of such a meeting extends beyond the specific issue of ethnic Hungarian rights; it could also accelerate Ukraine's broader European integration process.
The negotiation clusters in question represent a critical milestone in Kyiv's EU membership bid, provided the conditions regarding minority rights are met.
