Major Andriy Lukaniuk died near Bakhmut: the story of the commander of the Legion battalion.

On March 6, 2023, in Chasiv Yar, located in the Bakhmut district of Donetsk region, the defender from Bukovina, Major Andriy Lukaniuk, was killed. He was born on December 8, 1988, in the village of Hody-Dobrovidka in the Kolomyia district of Ivano-Frankivsk region. Andriy had a talent for painting and a dream of becoming a military pilot. He graduated from the College of Electronic Devices of the Ivano-Frankivsk National Technical University of Oil and Gas and later received a diploma from the Hetman Petro Sahaidachny National Academy of Ground Forces.
Andriy Lukaniuk served in the 80th Air Assault Brigade, where he established himself as a highly professional soldier. He actively participated in combat operations for the Luhansk airport, Debaltseve, and in other settlements. For his courage and military achievements, he received a number of awards, including the Order of Bohdan Khmelnytsky III degree.
In 2021, Andriy completed his master's degree at Chernivtsi National University named after Yuri Fedkovych. In 2022, he became the commander of the airborne battalion of the 80th separate air assault brigade, which he named Legion.
“He was made for the army, for the fight. He spent almost nine years at war almost continuously. He understood what and how to do, he managed a large organism, many people. And he took care of those people,” said the comrade of the defender Roman Hasko.
Andriy Lukaniuk died on March 6, 2023, in Chasiv Yar, Bakhmut district of Donetsk region. He was buried in the Central Cemetery of Chernivtsi. He left a deep mark in the memory of his relatives, friends, and comrades as a military person with a big heart and an indomitable spirit.
Commemoration
The “Glavkom” joins in a moment of silence, honoring all Ukrainians who died fighting for their homeland, remembering the heroic deeds of those who gave their lives for the freedom and independence of Ukraine. Eternal memory to all who died at the hands of Russian invaders and as a result of the aggression of hostile troops in Ukrainian cities and villages.
The army lost an outstanding defender who left behind a memory of his courage and strength of spirit, which inspires other warriors to heroic deeds in the name of the freedom and independence of Ukraine.
