The procession started on Deribasivska Street, moved along Richelievska toward the Opera House, continued down Prymorskyi Boulevard, and ended at European Square. Hanul was a well-known Odesa activist and a participant in the Euromaidan Revolution of Dignity, who had faced multiple attacks due to his outspoken stance.

Zhanna, Demian Hanul’s widow: 'Every day without Demian is incredibly hard for me. But on dates like the anniversary, it becomes even more unbearable.'
Public figures who spoke about Hanul emphasized his importance to Odesa. Kateryna Musiienko noted: 'Demian was a phenomenon — a Ukrainian nationalist in Odesa and a symbol of our national movement.' Oleksandr Muzychko also stressed the need to remember: 'Preserving memory is crucial because we must show that Odesa is a Ukrainian city. And Demian Hanul was a person who consistently defended the Ukrainian national idea.'
