She tried to obtain assistance to arrange for him to be placed in a homeless shelter but was denied. A psychiatric facility also could not take him into care since Michelle is not his legal guardian.
'He told me that someone is 'removing a chip from his brain' that controlled his actions, and that he will soon be free again.'
34-year-old Dekarlos Brown was arrested after attacking the Ukrainian refugee, which led to her death. He has been charged with first-degree murder, and the motives for the crime are currently unknown.
Mental state of the suspect
When investigating the murder of the Ukrainian refugee, it is important to take into account the mental state of the suspect, who, according to his mother's words, suffers from schizophrenia. An immediate psychiatric evaluation could be crucial for the further course of the trial and determining responsibility in this tragic case.
This situation underscores the importance of mental health, especially in the context of criminal cases. The proper medical assessment may determine not only the outcome of the trial but also the life of the suspect himself and all those around him. Society's reaction to such cases may also influence policies on mental health and social protection in the future.
