Metinvest's 'Citadel' Project: Building Steel Shelters to Protect Critical Ukrainian Infrastructure.
Metinvest's 'Citadel' Initiative
According to TSN.ua: Metinvest is constructing steel shelters for civilians and its own personnel at critical sites across Ukraine through its 'Citadel' project. According to the company's operational director, Oleksandr Myronenko, this initiative is vital for Ukraine's energy-intensive and export-driven economy, as it is crucial to keep ports and energy facilities operational. This effort is part of a broader corporate response to the ongoing conflict, which has made civilian and industrial protection a top priority.
One shelter has already been completed in Borodianka, Kyiv region, with several more currently under construction in Zaporizhzhia. A key advantage of these steel structures is their rapid assembly time of just 3-4 weeks, compared to up to six months for similar concrete bunkers.
"We are helping to secure personnel at these sites, and we are also equipping shelters at our own enterprises," said Oleksandr Myronenko.
Separately, under the 'Rinat Akhmetov's Steel Front' initiative, Metinvest has supplied approximately 900 shelters to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. These projects collectively demonstrate the company's commitment to civilian safety and national resilience during wartime.
The Strategic Importance of 'Citadel'
The 'Citadel' project represents a significant step in strengthening Ukraine's security infrastructure amidst the prolonged war. Building these shelters not only protects lives but also helps maintain the stability of key economic sectors like energy and transport. Such investments in security underscore the role of major businesses in supporting the country's defense and operational continuity against military aggression.
