The Verkhovna Rada appointed a new Minister of Defense: who will lead the army.
According to ТСН: The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has appointed Mykhailo Fedorov as the new Minister of Defense. This decision was voted for by 277 deputies, reported Member of Parliament Yaroslav Zheleznyak. “This is already the 4th Minister of Defense since the full-scale war began,” said the MP.
This decision was made after Fedorov was dismissed from the position of First Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Transformation.
What is known about the new Minister of Defense
Mykhailo Fedorov was born in 1991 in the city of Vasylivka, Zaporizhzhia region. He graduated from Zaporizhzhia National University and from the very beginning became interested in technologies and digital opportunities.
From 2015 to 2019, Fedorov founded and headed the internet agency SMMSTUDIO, which specialized in online promotion, including for the “Quarter 95 Studio.” In 2019, he led the digital direction of Volodymyr Zelensky's presidential campaign, and later became Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Transformation.
Fedorov initiated the “Diia” project – a service that allows Ukrainians to receive government services through their smartphones. Thanks to this initiative, people can obtain documents, register children, or check their rights online.
Moreover, he is working on the “Diia.City” project, which aims to create favorable tax conditions for IT companies and develop the technology sector. Fedorov is remembered as the youngest member of the government, striving to create a “state in a smartphone” and believing in the possibility of overcoming bureaucracy through technologies.
The President of Ukraine noted that Fedorov's candidacy was chosen due to the need for radical technological transformation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The President emphasized the achievements of the former Minister of Digital Transformation in the field of digitalization and development of defense technologies, particularly in the production of drones.
The appointment of Mykhailo Fedorov as Minister of Defense could mark a new phase in the reform of the Ukrainian armed forces, where technological innovations will play a key role. His experience in the field of digitalization and deep understanding of IT technologies could significantly impact the strategy and effectiveness of Ukraine's defense in the face of modern challenges.
