One million hryvnias for the first contract: what other payments are military personnel entitled to
According to Novyny.live: Ukrainian military personnel are entitled to annual monetary assistance for rehabilitation and also receive bonuses for signing their first contract. From February 11, 2025, young people aged 18 to 25 will receive one million hryvnias for their first contract. This innovation will be part of an experimental project aimed at attracting young people to military service.
In addition to the mentioned payment, Ukrainian defenders receive annual monetary assistance for rehabilitation, which is available after 30 days of service. Military personnel pay a 1.5% military levy; however, the state compensates the military who perform combat missions for this military levy. In January 2023, the fighters of the Armed Forces of Ukraine will receive increased assistance for their first contract in the amount of 33 thousand hryvnias.
Financial support for the military
Additionally, one category of military personnel will receive a monthly payment of about 26 thousand hryvnias. This financial support contributes to improving the socio-economic conditions for the personnel and increases motivation to serve. As Tetiana Zabrodska noted:

Thus, new financial initiatives may become an important step in supporting the military and attracting young people to service in the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The introduction of new payments for the military is part of Ukraine's strategy for modernizing the army and attracting young people to service amid an ongoing conflict. These initiatives could significantly impact the recruitment level and provide additional support to those choosing military service, particularly in financial terms. Implementing such measures also reflects the increasing attention of the state to the social needs of military personnel and their families.
