Trump's Plan Threatens Ukraine's Defense: Achilles Commander Named the Risks.
Comment from the Commander of the "Achilles" Regiment on Trump's Peace Plan
According to ТСН: Commander of the "Achilles" Regiment Yuriy Fedorenko urged caution regarding "Trump's peace plan," as it contains unacceptable terms, such as limiting the number of Ukraine's Armed Forces and prohibiting NATO membership.
According to him, the chief risk of this plan has already become a reality: there is a decrease in donations and less voluntary mobilization of Ukrainians due to hopes for a quick end to the war.
"Those who are conscripts but have not yet been mobilized think that it is unnecessary because the war will end soon," he noted.
This has led to negative consequences: Ukrainians have started donating less and less voluntarily joining the Defense Forces, while businesses servicing the military-industrial complex are less actively procuring supplies for the military.
"Therefore, we are falling behind in attracting the main capital of the war — people in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as well as in donations and funding for the Defense Forces," emphasized Fedorenko, calling for an analysis of the situation with a cool mind.
The commander harshly criticized the unacceptable points of Trump's plan, particularly limiting the Armed Forces of Ukraine to 600,000 personnel, prohibiting NATO membership, and recognizing occupied territories as Russian.
He stressed that only the military leadership of Ukraine has the authority to determine the size of the army. If hostilities cease without security guarantees, then military personnel with combat experience may receive only minimum wages, resulting in a loss of critical expertise.
Fedorenko believes that any agreement on a ceasefire should ensure reliable funding for the Armed Forces from our partners, taking into account the size to which Ukraine may expand.
He also expressed concern that active hostilities may pause before the end of President Trump's term, but after he leaves, the war may resume. Therefore, it is important for Ukraine to maintain the support of the presidential institution.
Publicist Vitaliy Portnikov considers "Trump's peace plan" a bluff without a real basis. According to him, this resulted from failed negotiations with Putin and the introduction of American sanctions.
Moreover, Russian businessman Kirill Dmitriev submitted an unapproved draft to the U.S. in an attempt to soften the restrictions, which became the basis for the revision of the "plan" by officials from the Trump administration.Portnikov emphasizes that the Russians have no intention of ending the war, as the Kremlin aims to destroy Ukrainian statehood. European leaders are aware of the chaos within Trump's team and are trying to influence the situation diplomatically. At the same time, it is emphasized that even potential agreements in Washington will not bring peace, as Russia does not plan to sign any compromises.
Fedorenko's comments show how important it is to critically perceive external peace initiatives. In wartime, any agreement must guarantee the safety and support of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as their effectiveness and the overall security of the state depend on this. Experts' opinions, including Portnikov's, also point to the complexity and ambiguity of contemporary geopolitical processes that influence Ukrainian-Russian relations.
