Oleksiy Kuleba on the Defense of Odesa Region: How Security of Bridges and Ports is Ensured

According to ТСН: Vice Prime Minister for the Reconstruction of Ukraine Oleksiy Kuleba spoke to journalists about security measures in the Odesa region following a series of Russian attacks on the region's logistics infrastructure.

According to the government official, the protection of key facilities, including bridges and ports, is under constant state control.

Commenting on the issue of air defense, Kuleba emphasized the importance of clear delineation of zones of responsibility.

"The issue of direct sky defense falls under the competence of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and air defense units. However, we, as the civil authority, provide everything necessary for the functioning of critical infrastructure facilities. In particular, the strategic bridge (in the area of Mayaki) is included in the list of such facilities and is, of course, under protection. Various security measures are employed for this purpose," said the Vice Prime Minister.

Logistics and Recovery

Oleksiy Kuleba stressed that despite the enemy's attempts to block communications in the south of the region through strikes on bridges, the situation remains under control.

Currently:

  • Alternative routes: logistical routes through Moldova have been developed to ensure sustainable communication with the Danube ports.

  • Critical transportation: priority passage has been ensured for emergency services, humanitarian cargo, and postal operators.

  • Energy supply: despite attacks on energy facilities, most consumers in Odesa and the region remain with heating and water thanks to reserve capacities.

The Vice Prime Minister also noted that the government maintains constant communication with military command regarding increasing sky defense over the ports of 'Great Odesa', as they are critical for the world's food security.

Let us remind you, the Russian Federation is trying to isolate the south of Ukraine and Odesa. The Russian army is deliberately destroying the region's logistics infrastructure. The day before, the occupiers launched a ballistic strike on the port infrastructure, resulting in eight deaths.

Moreover, on December 18, in the area of the village of Mayaki, the Russian army attacked a car with a drone that was heading towards the bridge across the Dniester Liman. Inside were a mother and three children. The woman died in the ambulance.

This situation in the Odesa region underscores the difficulties faced by Ukraine in wartime, as well as the importance of effective crisis management. The government continues to work on strengthening security and restoring infrastructure in the region, which is vital not only for local residents but also for the international community.
