The Interstellar Object 3I/ATLAS Pulses Peculiarly

According to ТСН: The interstellar object 3I/ATLAS has drawn scientists' attention due to its unusual pulsation, which makes it brighter as it approaches Earth – this will happen in two weeks.

Recent observations using telescopes showed that the object releases streams of gas and dust that create rhythmic bursts every 16.16 hours.

This pulsation changes the overall brightness level of the object by 20-40 percent in a repeating cycle, indicating that 3I/ATLAS is likely not a typical comet. Researchers believe that the solid core of the object rotates once every 16.16 hours, and during this rotation, the ice on its surface is heated by sunlight, transforming into gas that is released in jets.

It is believed that this is related to the fact that sunlight reaches the same icy regions with each rotation.

However, Harvard University professor Avi Loeb emphasizes that this does not explain the bursts of brightness emanating from the object. He noted:

“The light pulsations were strange since almost all the light observed by telescopes comes from the coma – a massive cloud of gas and dust, not from the dark rocky center of the object.”

Loeb explained that if the core is rotating and emitting bursts, a large cloud of gas would have to scatter these bursts, leading to slight variations in brightness, rather than the significant flashes observed by astronomers.

The astrophysicist pointed out that this could be further evidence that 3I/ATLAS is an unnatural object, as its strong pulsation contradicts the typical conception of a comet.

He has previously pointed out 12 anomalies that remain unexplained, including a comet tail moving in the wrong direction, the object's blue color, and course changes that do not comply with the laws of gravity.

NASA refutes the existence of any anomalous phenomena, considering them the result of an object originating from a distant solar system with a likely different chemical composition.

For its part, NASA and the European Space Agency (ESA) reported that 3I/ATLAS is a lifeless comet and found no signs of extraterrestrial life.

While NASA and the UN confirmed that the comet poses no threat to Earth, on December 19 it will come within 273.5 million kilometers. This close encounter will be used to prepare for potential space threats.

It should be noted that the UN has officially included the interstellar object 3I/ATLAS in annual planetary defense exercises due to its 'strange behavior'.

Thus, the object 3I/ATLAS becomes an important subject of study, as its behavior challenges conventional understandings of comets. Scientists will continue observations and research to understand what this interstellar object might actually be. Gradually determining its nature could open new horizons for astronomy and our understanding of the universe.
