Mobilization in Ukraine: what age of men does the army now require.
According to ТСН: Mobilization is ongoing in Ukraine, and recently it has been four months since men aged 18 to 22 have been allowed to cross the state border provided they have a passport and military registration documents.
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, during a joint press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, expressed the opinion that young Ukrainian men should serve, rather than leave for Germany and other European countries.
Military situation in Ukraine
Military analyst and former spokesperson of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Vladislav Seleznyov commented on the specific needs of the Ukrainian military regarding men, and how Europe might deal with those who have left.
“War is a young man's business. If we analyze global experience, for example, the average age of Israeli servicemen is 19 years, while that of American servicemen is 22-25 years. Of course, young men are more agile than their older compatriots,” says Seleznyov.
He also noted that:
“The use of modern tools, including drones, requires certain skills. The gaming generation knows this better than men aged 50 and older.”
Regarding the consequences of the German chancellor's statement about Ukrainian men abroad, Seleznyov noted that this could place a serious burden on Germany's social infrastructure.
“There are increasingly frequent calls to stop the exit of men under 22. However, it is difficult to predict whether a decision will be made to prohibit leaving. Permission was given based on research at the time,” said the former spokesperson of the General Staff.
In Seleznyov's opinion, if Ukraine lacks resources, unpopular decisions may be made for the sake of survival. He believes that the Ukrainian military currently demonstrates resilience.
Men needed for various units
Seleznyov also noted that repair and training units can be staffed with citizens aged 45 and older.
“Assault units need men aged 25 and older. They are able to adapt and physically withstand the load,” he says.
The issue of the presence of Ukrainian men abroad is actively discussed on social media. Some military personnel believe that the Ukrainian government may make unpopular decisions regarding the return of men and obligations for them to serve.
It has previously been reported that within the framework of mobilization, summons will be sent to “Reserve+.”
It is evident that the issue of the return of Ukrainian men from abroad remains relevant. In the context of military conflict, authorities must consider both the needs of the army and the social consequences for those who left. This could become a subject of discussions and possible changes in legislation.
