Monument of Stupidity and Corruption: Popenko Explained Why the Podilsky Bridge Has Lost Its Significance.
Oleg Popenko expressed his negative opinion regarding the opening of the Podilsky bridge crossing in Kyiv, calling it a 'monument of corruption'. He stated that the object has lost its strategic importance due to the prohibition of land plots intended to address transport issues.
Oleg Popenko, founder of the NGO 'Consumer Union of Utility Services', spoke very negatively about the commissioning of the bridge. 'The city has become a symbol and monument of stupidity, corruption, and, once again, stupidity and absurd state management in Ukraine,' the expert said.
According to Popenko, the project will not be able to fully perform its functions for the Troieschyna district because 'all land plots around it, on which logistical connections and road arteries were to be built, have been sold.'
Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported that from December 1, passenger cars and city public transport began to cross the bridge. Vehicle entry from the right bank is from Naberezhno-Khreshchatytska Street and exit to Petar Vershyhory Street, and from the left bank - vice versa.
According to the mayor, the tunnel that connects the bridge with the exit to Vershyhory Street towards Roman Shukhevych Avenue and Troieschyna is used for passage. Heavy-duty vehicles are still not able to use the bridge.
Recall that in 2021, the SBU uncovered a scheme of embezzlement of 3 billion hryvnias during the construction of the Podilsky Bridge due to inflated costs of the works.
