Hunter survives bear attack: how he shot back and walked 14 km.
According to The Sun: 39-year-old father Jeremy Evans tells the harrowing story of a rodent attack while hunting in the wilderness of Alberta, Canada in 2017.
Hours after arriving in the mountains on August 24, Jeremy found himself in critical condition as the bear ripped off his face and chewed his head, leaving him with serious injuries. He even considered ending his life.
The bear ripped off Jeremy's face 'in one movement' and chewed his head 'like a dog gnaws a bone.'
The attack occurred when Jeremy, an experienced hunter, saw some sheep and sat quietly to observe them. Suddenly, a mother bear protecting her cub charged at him, giving him just half a second to react. He fought back, hitting the bear in the face with his backpack, but still sustained serious injuries.
“I remember seeing her teeth going into my hand, and I felt them separating my bones,” Jeremy recalled.
Despite the fierce struggle, Jeremy managed to fend off the bear by pinning her under his belly, and he let her go and ran. But the nightmare was not over when the bear returned and dragged him along the ground, inflicting even more serious injuries.
“She grabbed and hit me in the lower corner of my left face, ripping everything off, leaving my face bare from ear to ear,” Jeremy described.
Faced with the possibility of not surviving, Jeremy attempted to end his life, but the brutal shot did not work. Eventually, he managed to reach the camp, where he left a message for his wife before continuing to search for his car and drive to a resort for help.
After Jeremy arrived at the hospital, his injuries were so severe that a child mistook him for a 'zombie'. He spent five weeks in the hospital, undergoing several surgeries to save parts of his face.
After recovery, Jeremy faced a long battle with PTSD and wrote a book entitled 'Mauled' to raise funds for PTSD research. Now he travels around the world giving motivational speeches about his harrowing journey.
The news details Jeremy Evans's account of the rodent attack that led to serious injuries and long-term consequences. He shared his story, which has touched many and inspired him to write a book and deliver lectures for support, sharing his journey of recovery from physical and psychological trauma.
