A fragment of a Russian drone was found on a Latvian beach: what is known.
According to inkorr.com: A fragment of a Russian drone of the 'Gerber' type was discovered on a beach in the Varvsky district of Ventspils, located in the west of Latvia. This was reported by the Latvian Armed Forces along with Defense Minister Andris Spruds.
“Today, pieces of the drone's tail were found on the beach. A demining group of the North Atlantic Air Force is heading to the site for a detailed analysis of the object,” the Latvian Armed Forces noted.
The Defense Minister added that no explosive elements had been detected in the fragments of the drone. An appeal to the Polish government is planned to check whether this fragment could be part of the drones that Russia used during the attack on Poland on September 10.
Latvia's measures to protect against drones
In response to the attacks of Russian drones on Poland, Latvia decided to restrict airspace in the eastern border area. These restrictions will be in effect until September 18 and have been introduced as a precautionary measure.
As a result of the attack on Ukraine on September 10, some drones crossed Polish airspace and were shot down. The Russian Ministry of Defense denied accusations of planning attacks on Poland; however, Ukraine has expressed its willingness to assist in creating a defense system against such threats.
The incident with the fragment of the Russian drone on the Latvian beach underscores the presence of serious threats to the region and the importance of further measures in the security sphere. In light of recent events, this situation once again proves that the Baltic countries remain in the focus of risks related to airspace security.
