Wild Cats in Odesa Region

According to Novyny.live: Young wild cats, rescued after being found near their deceased mother, have been released into the Tuzly Estuaries National Nature Park in the Odesa region following seven months of rehabilitation. Blind when discovered, the animals underwent an extended recovery process at the Young Naturalists Station in Izmail.

The transfer of the wild cats from Izmail to the national park took place several days ago.

“When the kittens were found next to their dead mother, they were still completely blind,” said Ivan Rusev, one of the staff members involved in their care.
Park officials hope the animals will adapt to their new environment and help boost the population of this rare species.

The Tuzly Estuaries as an Ecological Hub

In recent years, the Tuzly Estuaries have become a vital ecological hub, not only for animal rehabilitation but also for bird diversity monitoring. The first flocks of pink flamingos were spotted in late February, signaling growing biodiversity in the area. Additionally, in 2026, a flock of 55 pink pelicans stopped in the floodplain of the Kogylnyk River near the Sasyk Estuary.

Thus, the release of the wild cats into nature represents a key step in conserving this species and highlights the efforts of conservationists to strengthen the ecosystem of the Tuzly Estuaries.

This release in the Odesa region marks a significant milestone for regional biodiversity and ecological stability. It underscores the work of conservation organizations striving to restore populations of endangered rare species. Given the importance of the Tuzly Estuaries as an ecological hub, such initiatives can greatly influence the preservation of natural resources and the support of ecosystems in Ukraine.
