Ecologists in the Odesa region discovered a red-listed pink pelican with a broken wing. Specialists rescued the bird, which was found near the village of Burlacha Balka in the Odesa district, and which is included in the Red Book of Ukraine.
Currently, the pink pelican has been transferred to the Odesa zoo for treatment. If it recovers, it is planned to return it to its natural habitat.
Information about pink pelicans
Recently, the nesting range of pink pelicans has significantly decreased, especially in Europe. They are now more widespread in Southeast Europe, Southeast Asia, and Equatorial Africa. These beautiful birds live in both freshwater and brackish waters, exclusively hunting for fish and choosing shallow areas for foraging.
Pelicans are unique birds that require special attention and protection, so it is important to respond promptly to their problems and assist in their rescue. We hope that the pink pelican will recover and soon be able to swim freely in nature.Read also
